Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 9, 2026
We are parents building an app for families, and we want this page to be easy to read. It explains what the Rukalya app and the rukalya.com website collect, why, and what you can do about it.
Who we are
Rukalya is a family travel app made by a small team of parents. In this policy, "we" and "us" means the Rukalya team.
Questions about your privacy? Email us at support@rukalya.com.
What we collect in the app
We only collect what the app needs to work:
- Your account: your email address.
- What you enter: trips, destinations and dates, day plans and stops, checklists, supplies, journal entries, expenses, and the people you travel with. This includes your children's first names and ages, which you enter as their parent.
- Journal photos, but only the ones you choose to upload.
- Anonymous usage analytics, such as which screens are opened, so we can see what works and what doesn't.
- Crash reports, with technical details such as your device model, system version and app version, so we can fix bugs.
Why we use it
- To run the app and keep your account working.
- To sync your information across your devices and with the members of your household.
- To find and fix bugs, and to understand which features are useful.
We don't use your information for advertising, and we don't sell it to anyone.
Family sharing
When you create or join a household, everything shared in that household, like trips, plans and lists, is visible to all of its members (up to 8 people). Only invite people you trust with your family's plans.
Your settings stay private to you.
Children
Rukalya is meant for parents and other adults. Children don't create accounts. Information about children, such as their first name and age, is entered by their parents.
If you think a child has given us information directly, email us at support@rukalya.com and we will delete it.
Where your data is stored and who helps us
Your account and app data are stored on secure cloud servers run by our service providers. We use a small number of trusted providers to run the app, and each one only gets what it needs for its job:
- Cloud hosting: our database, sign-in and photo storage.
- Data sync: keeps your data in sync between your devices and your household, including after you have been offline.
- Maps and place search: receives your searches and the map areas you view.
- Crash reporting: receives crash reports so we can fix bugs.
- Product analytics: receives anonymous usage statistics.
- Currency rates: receives the currencies being converted, not your account details.
- Weather forecasts: receives the location of your destination, not your account details.
Some of these providers may store or process data in a country other than yours. If you would like to know which providers we use, email us at support@rukalya.com.
On your device
Offline maps and a copy of your data are saved on your device, so the app works without a connection. They stay on your device and are erased when you sign out.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your data for as long as you have an account.
You can delete your account at any time in the app: Settings → Account → Delete account. This permanently deletes your account and your data.
If other people share your household, the shared family data stays with them, so their trips aren't lost. Your personal data and your membership in the household are deleted.
Can't open the app? Here is how to delete your account without it.
This website
On rukalya.com, you don't need an account. We collect:
- Feature suggestions you send us: your email address, your suggestion, and your name if you choose to give it.
- Launch sign-ups: your email address and the language you were reading the site in. We send you one email, in that language, when the app launches, and we don't use your address for anything else. We keep sign-ups until that email has gone out, and you can ask us to remove yours before then.
- Anonymous usage statistics through Google Analytics, such as which pages are visited, roughly where visitors are (country or city, not your exact location), and the type of device and browser. Until you click Accept in the cookie banner, Google Analytics sets no cookies and only receives basic signals, like a page being viewed, that can't recognize you on a later visit.
- Basic technical information any website receives, such as your IP address and browser type. Our servers use it briefly to keep the site working and secure.
The website is run with the help of our hosting provider, our email delivery service and Google Analytics. They only get what they need to do that job.
Cookies on this website
- Google Analytics cookies, which help us count visits. We only set them if you click Accept in the cookie banner, and you can change your mind at any time with "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page.
- Two small cookies the site needs to work: one keeps your visit together, and one protects our forms against a common kind of attack. They expire after about two hours.
- A language cookie, but only if you pick a language at the bottom of the page. It remembers your choice for next time.
We remember your answer to the cookie banner in your browser's storage, so we don't ask on every page. No advertising cookies, and no tracking across other websites.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- Show you the information we have about you, or send you a copy.
- Correct it if something is wrong.
- Delete it.
Email us at support@rukalya.com and we will answer within 30 days. You can also delete your account yourself in the app at any time.
Depending on where you live, for example in the European Union or in Quebec, you may have other rights too, such as objecting to how we use your information or complaining to your local data protection authority.
Security
Your data is encrypted in transit between the app and our servers. Access to your trips, plans and lists is limited to you and the members of your household.
No system is perfectly secure, but we take care to protect your information and only give our service providers what they need.
Changes to this policy
As the app and the website grow, we may update this policy. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For important changes, we will also tell you in the app or by email.
